Haifa, Israel's main port,
has been bought by the Indian multinational Adani Group. They got the
ownership of this port located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in
exchange for 115 million US dollars. Israeli Finance Minister Betzalel
Motrik confirmed this on Tuesday. News: Reuters.
Earlier, Israel
announced the sale of Haifa port last July. Adani Group and a local
chemical and logistics supplier won the tender at that time. Israel is
investing in building private docks by selling state-owned ports. They
have taken this step mainly to reduce costs and reduce extra time in
unloading ships. It took five years to sell the important port, which
has been plagued by labor strikes for many years.
